to Audrey Byrne who has won a €250 Great outdoors gift voucher as part of our Christmas Gift Inspiration competition. We had so many wonderful entries and have selected ten of our favourites to give you some inspiration when doing your Christmas gifting this year. Enjoy!

I’m very much into thoughtful gifts. Listen to your friend/partner and write down any time they mention something that could be a potential gift (anything from a Double Decker bar of chocolate to their favourite place or favourite comedian). Buy a DIY advent calendar in Tiger or Aldi and then a combination of small gifts- anything from a keyring to a Bunsen voucher — the real challenge is to put a limit on how much you spend. The trick here (so there is no peeking and because the calendar tends to be slightly small ) is to take a picture of all the items and use this in the calendar rather than the item itself... so instead of getting the gifts one at a time they will only know what they are but not receive them until Christmas day

I’d love to give my Mum a holiday voucher- she’s 69 on December 20th. She raised six kids and hasn’t been away for a holiday for over 5 years. She really deserves a break away!

A weekend away for my wonderful daughter Emer who is such a loving mother to little Ellen and Hugh. We have the great gift of being grandparents and is a joy all year round. Emer and her husband Alan could have a break in The Radisson Blu, Galway while we look after our two treasures

Exactly 44 years ago we moved to this area to raise our family. We went into Divers newsagent in Ardara to get our Independent and we were given the number 18 to reserve our Independent every day. Now for Christmas I am giving my three daughters who live in the area a gift of the Irish Independent every day for a year- and maybe they will stop taking my paper away before I’m finished with it

I would give my dad tickets to an Ireland match. He is rugby mad. Used to play for Tullow RFC then became a trainer. Trained Sean O’Brien along with my brother all through Mosney Community Games and still goes to every match he can. He travels to some matches with his friend Terry who is wheel chair bound and will only ask my dad to go with him. Unfortunately my dad had to give up work some time ago due to ill health and isn’t his same active self anymore. If I could send him to watch Ire against the All Blacks or a big team like that he would be made up. I can see the look on his face and that would make my Christmas alone. He is so good to us and minds his 1yr old granddaughter now as he is at home all the time and she is the light of his life. I wouldn’t even know where to begin to get such tickets but I would give all my own gifts to just give him this.

An evergreen shrub to plant in our garden for our new little grandson born on November 3rd. It will be beside the other 9 shrubs which have been planted for each of our grandchildren. I will purchase it from Carmel Towey’s Garden Center in Kilworth, Co Cork

My mother, who is 80 soon, has always been very curious about the Apps on my iPad and picked up some she liked very quickly, but has refused resolutely to get a smartphone or tablet and has never had a debit or credit payment card needed for them and finds that aspect too difficult to grasp. I’ve finally got her to agree to a piece of technology for Christmas. She is a voracious reader and has problems with her neck and shoulders holding books for hours, so she has finally agreed to let me get her a Kindle for Christmas and I’m going to pay her Kindle Unlimited subscription annually every Christmas as part of her present which lets her borrow 10 books at a time with no limits as to how often or for how long.
